Discover the geological richness of the Patagonian Steppe

The excursion starts at Parador La Leona, located on Route 40, 110 km from El Calafate. There you will make a short visit to the historical site, and then continue your trip following the southern shore of Lake Viedma until you reach Cerro de los Hornos in Estancia Santa Teresita.

You will peek for the first time into the huge depression in the ground where the petrified trunks are located and begin your exploration walk among the fossils. Halfway through the tour you will stop for lunch.

Along the hike you will see many petrified trunks lying on the surface, some with a diameter of 1.20 meters, testimony of ancient times when the climate was very different from today and allowed the support of an abundant and large flora. Occasionally fossil remains of different types of dinosaurs are uncovered.

At the end of the hike, we return to Parador La Leona and the excursion ends.
