Some mountains are famous for their trails. Others for their impossible peaks. But there are some that are simply there and yet they still shake your soul.
Cerro Castillo, visible from several points in the town of El Calafate and with an unmistakable silhouette, is one of those silent giants that, without seeking prominence, becomes a symbol.
We chose him as our muse. Its silhouette against the Patagonian sky is part of the Insight Travel logo, but it's also much more than that. It's a constant reminder of why we do what we do: to connect travellers with landscapes that leave a mark, with real experiences, with what Patagonia has to offer beyond tourism.
Where is Cerro Castillo?
Located within the Los Glaciares National Park, in the southern part of the province of Santa Cruz, this hill is part of the mountain range that surrounds Lake Argentino. Although it is not visited directly like other landmarks (such as Fitz Roy or Perito Moreno itself), its presence is imposing from afar, and those who see it for the first time remember it forever.
Why does it inspire us?
Because it doesn't need to shout to be majestic.
Because it appears when you least expect it, on a bend in the road, when you look up from a viewpoint, when you leave the house on a clear morning.
Because it has the shape of a castle carved by wind and time, which seems to be taken from an ancient legend.
Cerro Castillo is a symbol of what we believe in
At Insight Travel we believe in showing you what's behind the postcard. In taking you to discover Patagonia with curious eyes and an open heart. We want every trip to have a little bit of discovery, a little bit of magic and a little bit of you.
And this hill - which is not even in the brochures - represents just that: what not everyone sees, but which is worth discovering.
Would you like to meet him?
Although you can't walk directly to the top, there are ways to get close to it. Some excursions across the steppe show it from dreamlike angles. Ask us, and we will tell you the best way to get close to it.
Final tip: take a good look at the Insight Travel logo next time. That silhouette that crowns it is real. It exists. It's called Cerro Castillo. And it's here, waiting for you.
