The excursion starts at the Parador La Leona, located on Route 40, 110 km from El Calafate. There you will make a short visit to the historical site, and then continue your journey along the southern shore of Lake Viedma until you reach the Cerro de los Hornos in Estancia Santa Teresita.
You will first peek into the huge depression in the ground where the petrified trunks are located and begin your exploration walk among the fossils. Halfway through the walk you will stop for lunch.
Along the walk you will see many petrified trunks lying on the surface, some with a diameter of 1.20 metres, testimony to ancient times when the climate was very different from today's and allowed the support of an abundant and large flora. Occasionally, fossil remains of different types of dinosaurs are uncovered.
At the end of the walk, we return to the Parador La Leona and the excursion is over.
